As a longtime entrepreneur, I can honestly say that it is a bit concerning to me that many people's business strategy did not include additional marketing and advertising buckets other than just social media as a form of driving their business.
Yes, social media is a great form of what I consider "today's word of mouth", and No, I am not saying that you should not have some sort of social media presence. What I am saying is that when you are a business (that means you are making money for something that you are selling, promoting, etc), you should always have multiple strategies for how you intend to get business and make that money!
Social Media should never be your ONLY online presence, or avenue to generate your business. The first thing I always recommend to anyone looking to start a business - get your URL (for your business name) and then get your website (aka storefront). Then, add your social media. Social Media should be sending people to YOUR website to learn more about your business, to your contact forms, to your products, to your offers, to your blogs...Your website is what YOU own (via your URL) rather than what the Social Media Company owns. Realistically, I highly recommend blogging. It helps a lot with SEO and Google Ranking. You can also add a Podcast, Pinterest, YouTube, etc, just don't stop at thinking that a TikTok or Instagram account is all you need to be sustainable in business!
Did TikTok make a lot of people very wealthy? Absolutely! For some, that was their livelihood...but when you don't have other plans in place, you will always be at the mercy of someone else.
Please take this possible ban as a business learning opportunity that you need to diversify your strategy.
