10 Things Most People Don't Know About Me

I want to take a minute to introduce myself.  I am Marla Austin.  Even if you know me, you may not know these things about me.  So I am going to let you in on a few little secrets about me.  

Here are 10 things most people don't know about me...

1. I aspired to be a country singer later in my life (age 32 to be exact). I met my husband exactly 1 week before my trip to Nashville to look for housing for the move.  I came back from Nashville and never ended up moving.  God's plan was bigger and better than mine!

2. I placed 1st runner up in a hair competition when I was in beauty school.  It was an amazing experience.  I created a rose out of a friend's hair with no bobby pins...just one hair band holding the ponytail part. The dress my model was supposed to wear at the competition had gotten a hole in it on that day and we had to scramble to find a replacement dress...luckily, my sister's prom dress (with roses on it ironically) was the right size for my model.  It could not have worked out more perfectly!

3. I played the piano by ear when I was young.  Don't get me wrong, there was music notes on a paper in front of me, but I did not read music well at all!  I would listen to the song and then play it on the piano.  I didn't really care for playing enough to pursue it further.  

4. My favorite class in high school was interior design.  I loved drawing out house plans and then pulling together the colors, design & fabrics that would be in each room on a board. My favorite club was Photography - being in the Dark Room, developing the film...I just loved seeing the images come to life in the chemicals of developing.

5. I have a Paralegal Degree. I don't use it, but I have it.  I also have a Business Management degree.

6. I am not a fan of the beach.  I lived in Florida for 4 years and visited the beach about 3-4 times (and I only lived 10 minutes from it).  The sand is always so hot and the water...well, it's home to a few fish...I really don't want to disturb them in their home.  I AM however, a fan of a pool (not public pool, private pool).  So, anyone up for a drink with the umbrella by the pool? 

7. I never liked horror movies, or Halloween...yet, my husband and my first getaway date was to Halloween Horror Nights in Orlando.  Went thru all of the haunted houses (VERY SCARY) and rode the rides at night.  We went back 10 years later and I could not even get thru 1 haunted house without nearly melting down :)  I stayed out while my son and husband went thru the rest of them. 

8. I DO NOT have a green thumb!  Yep, if you see that meme going around where the lady is saying to the plant in the store "hi, do you want to come home with me to die"...that is SOOOO me!! I cannot seem to keep a plant alive to save my life.  Kudos to my husband for keeping all of them alive at our house!

9. I was named Miss Congeniality on my 6th grade Cheerleading team.  I wanted to be the homecoming queen, but realized that Miss Congeniality fit me more perfectly. I was a cheerleader for 8 years - even co-founded the squad at my community college. 

10. I have a small addiction to eyeshadow pallettes! Ok, maybe a little bigger than small addiction.
